Sui Generis

Welcoming are the faces,

Painted black and white,

Eyes full of sorrow,

Lips spread in delight.

Empty eye sockets,

China-white skin,

A deep full smile,

Concealing chagrin.

“Peel off the layers,”

I was there to ask,

Just a frame work of bones:

Her face without a mask.

Wide awake in awe,

The shape of the Earth,

Where was the envy,

Behind her fake mirth?

She wears a thousand faces,

To hide the real few,

Dominoes on everybody,

How many just on you?
